In Which the Piglet Gains Social Skills
Violet has made some excellent strides in her short tenure as a house pig:
1. She knows where her food is, and who to pester to get it there. I'll be cleaning up the counter and sink and suddenly become aware that a piglet has trotted in and is grunting at me.
So I mix up some gruel, and as I'm pouring it into her dish, she plunges her snout into the pouring container while planting her front legs firmly into her eating dish. And yes, she eats like a pig, snorting and slurping and sucking. It would be gross if it weren't so cute.
2. She has figured out the doggie door.
3. She pees very soon after we take her outside, as long as we read the signals correctly.
4. She has gained weight; her harness is getting tight. I measured her today, calling out the numbers as Kayti wrote them down (right on my Sunday NYT crossword puzzle. Grrrr.) She is 15 inches long from ears to base of tail; 8 inches tall from floor to point of shoulder; and 16 inches around her barrel.
It's getting so she doesn't squeal when we pick her up, and we can actually cuddle her! Oh, the joys of pig stewardship!
